Minimally invasive repair of pectus excavatum in adults: a review article of presentation, workup, and surgical treatment

: Pectus excavatum (Pex) is one of the most common congenital deformities chest wall, with pectus constituting 90% all wall and being reported in almost 1:400 to 1:1,000 live births predominant occurrence males up five times more than females. Depending on severity, presentation varies from mild cosmetic complaints life limiting cardiopulmonary symptoms. Patients may develop symptoms as they age, these worsen over years. A technique for minimally invasive repair (MIRPE) was introduced concept temporarily implanting metal bars correct deformity. This has rapidly become standard care pediatric adolescent patients. The use MIRPE adults, however, been slower adopt controversial. largely due increased calcification rigidity adults which can make complex lead a higher risk complications. We present literature review presentation, workup, surgical treatment adult patients Pex undergoing MIRPE.
